GUSH x Mistress Marley
New York City-based financial dominatrix Mistress Marley went viral this homecoming season after she walked one of her leashed clients through an HBCU. But there’s more to her than meets the eye. A savvy business woman, Black sex worker advocate, and sexually liberated being, Mistress Marley is a on a mission to empower Black women through financial and sexual liberation.
Here, Marley discusses her life as a dominatrix, misconceptions people may have about what she does, and what’s next for her growing business.
OHNAAHNAAH: How would you describe what you do?
MISTRESS MARLEY: I am a Pro Dominatrix in NYC specializing in financial domination, the kink of controlling ones wallet and finances. I also run an organization for black women called Black Domme Sorority, where I mentor other women on how to be a part of the industry.
O: How did you get into being a financial dominatrix? Was there an “aha!” moment when you knew this was for you?
MM: I stumbled upon it after doing my own research on how to become a domme. I didn’t have a mentor which is why I’m so adamant on helping others.
O: Do you see this as a side gig, a hobby, or do you see yourself as a bit of an entrepreneur? All 3 maybe?
MM: It’s actually an official business for me in the state of New York!
O: What’s the biggest misconception people have about what you do?
MM: Some people think that I have sex with my clients when I don’t. As an advocate for sex work, I have to help people understand that not ALL sex work involves intercourse. People also think I’m forcing my clients to do something also. Nope! All consensual.
O: Do you find dating (or maybe you’re in a relationship?) difficult as a financial domme?
MM: I don’t find dating to be difficult. I am always upfront about what I do and I never hide my true self for people. Honesty is how I move when it comes to dating.
O: This is clearly your passion. What’s the most fulfilling part of what you do?
MM: The most fulfilling part is connecting with new people in the community and learning new things. I always like to hear others input on their perceptions of how things work out for them.
O: What’s next for you? I know you have the Black Domme Sorority. What do you hope people get from following you and learning about your work?
MM: My next step is to figure out how to reach even more communities through seminars, gatherings, etc. Right now I throw play parties in the city for black millennials that have had amazing turn outs. I want to expand my reach in different cities.
O: Anything else you’d like to add?
MM: Black women: be as free as you’d wish! Don’t let society tell you that you’re only allowed to be one “type” of woman. Own your power, own what makes you unique, and stay real to yourself. Everything will fall into place.
